50-HOUR YOGA foundations | Maple Ridge, BC

View the schedule

For many practitioners, progress starts to feel like perfecting the poses.

Holding them longer.
Going deeper into the stretch.
Trying to refine every detail of alignment.

But at a certain point, you start to sense there is more to yoga than improving how the shapes look.

You may find yourself wondering why certain poses feel different on different days.
Why breath changes the entire experience of a posture.
Or how philosophy, energy, and awareness are meant to fit into the practice you’ve been doing for years.

Advancing your practice isn’t really about doing harder poses.

It comes from understanding the foundations that support everything else.

This training creates space to step back from chasing “perfect” shapes and instead study yoga as a complete system, exploring philosophy, breath and nervous system awareness, subtle body concepts, anatomy, meditation, and the foundational postures that shape most modern practice.

The foundations that move your practice forward

In this 50-hour yoga foundations training, you'll gain:

An intro to yoga philosophy including the Yoga Sutras & the Eight Limbs of Yoga

A practical understanding of the subtle body, the koshas, prana & vayus

Tools for breathwork & nervous system regulation through foundational pranayama

A framework for developing & sustaining a consistent personal practice (on and off the mat)

Anatomical foundations and breakdowns of foundational postures, including Sun Salutation A.

She taught me instead to “explore my edge” & really feel the benefits of slowing down which brought a totally new dimension to my practice. To “take what works & leave what doesn’t” is something that guides me everyday & every practice.

"Before Alison, I was all about 'push, push, push'."

I have learnt so much about myself, about yoga and about life. I was blessed to have such amazing teachers and peers to be there with me along the way. I am so happy that I faced my own fears and challenges and graduated. I am officially now a qualified yoga teacher.

—KATE

"I've learnt so much about myself."

Remembering when I followed my dream [of becoming a yoga teacher]. You changed my life, love you always.

A place to study yoga more deeply

Many students feel the pull to study yoga more deeply. But committing to a full 200-hour teacher training can feel like a big step—especially if you’re not sure you want to teach, or if you’re wondering whether you’re “ready.”

I created this 50-hour Foundations training as a place to begin.

It offers space to explore the philosophy, breath, subtle body, anatomy, and foundational postures that shape modern yoga practice, without needing to commit to a full teacher training program right away.

My approach blends traditional yoga philosophy with the perspective I’ve developed through my work as a Certified Yoga Therapist, E-RYT 500, and teacher trainer. The training is grounded in nervous system awareness, somatic practice, and trauma-informed approaches to teaching and learning.

Because advancing in yoga isn’t about perfecting poses.
It’s about learning to practice with attention, clarity, and care—for yourself and, if you choose to teach one day, for others as well.

Frequently asked questions

No, this training was designed for students who are looking to understand their practice more fully. While it is part of the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training pathway, it is also designed to stand on its own as a deep study of yoga foundations.

Students should have some familiarity with yoga practice, but you do not need to be advanced or able to do every posture. The training focuses on understanding the foundations of practice rather than performing complex poses.

Yes. This training is eligible for Yoga Alliance Continuing Education (YACEP) hours through Alison Reaume. Alison is a registered YACEP (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider), and teachers who are registered with Yoga Alliance may apply their completed training hours toward their continuing education requirements.

If you would like to receive a certificate of completion, there is a short quiz and a 15-minute teaching experience at the end of the training for each student.

If you are taking the training for personal study only and do not require a certificate, you may choose to bypass the quiz and teaching component.

This 50-hour Foundations training is Module 1 of the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training.
Students who wish to continue into the full program may apply the hours toward the 200-hour training for up to one year after completing this module.

Because the program continues to evolve, students who wish to enroll in the full 200-hour training more than one year later will be asked to retake the Foundations module.

Students should plan for approximately 1.5 hours of guided at-home study each week, which may include readings, reflection, or personal practice.

To maintain a focused learning environment, the full 200-hour program is capped at 12–14 students (depending on location).

Because this training takes place during Module 1 of the program, some students will be continuing through the full training. Foundations-only registration is therefore limited to 6 students.

Students will receive a comprehensive training manual to support their study throughout the program.

Students should bring comfortable practice clothing, a notebook for reflections, and a willingness to participate in both movement and discussion.

In addition, students are required to bring a copy of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Ranjit Chaudhuri. The paperback edition is widely available and typically costs around $14 on Amazon
